Independent builders’ merchant Allsands Supplies has been taken over by international DIY and merchanting business Grafton Group for an undisclosed sum.
The Larkfield-based business has operated for more than 30 years, running from a single branch on New Hythe Lane.
Its revenues reached £6 million in the year to March 2015. It has been bought as a “bolt-on acquisition” according to Grafton.
Its new owner said the company “enhances market coverage and complements the existing branch network in the South East”.
Allsands chief executive Kevin O’Sullivan, who founded the business three decades ago, said: “We instinctively felt that the Grafton Group was the perfect partner to grow the business to the next level.
“Allsands will continue to build on its reputation, whilst ensuring continuity and security for all the team with the support and infrastructure of Graftons.”
Mr O’Sullivan, who lives in Maidstone and has seven children, has retired from the family business, which employs 24 people, following the acquisition.
Three sons, a daughter, a nephew and his sister will remain at the firm.
He added: “Allsands is firmly established in and around Maidstone and the way the business has grown has been ‘a dream come true’.
“I would like to thank our staff and customers, many of whom have become long-term friends, and all who have contributed to our success.
“There will be a seamless transition with no changes in the Allsands’ team or trading name.
“We have been impressed with the expertise and aspirations of the Grafton Group. I am delighted for the younger generation to be looking forward to the next Allsands’ chapter.”
