The directors of a construction firm which filed its intent to appoint administrators last week are also directors of another business in administration.
Stuart Gremo, the managing director of Cardy Construction, and his fellow board member Lee Johnson are also directors of troubled real estate developer Waydale Estates Ltd.
The firm has been undergoing the administration process since 2012.
Waydale Estates' problems relate to the development of The Landmark, a block of apartments in Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, on which building work was carried out by Cardy Construction, according to documents filed at Companies House.
In 2007, Cardy directors Stuart Gremo, Lee Johnson, Michael Stannard, Graham Cryer and Timothy Seed were made shareholders in the company, originally set up in 2005 by developers Stacey Wren and Paul Adler.
The joint venture ran into trouble in 2009 when it became clear a £15 million loan from Kent Reliance would not cover the building costs.
The shareholders injected more of their own cash and sought another loan from a London company, Kinaz Limited.
In 2010 and 2011, relations broke down between Cardy’s bosses and its original shareholders Ms Wren and Mr Adler.
When Kent Reliance became concerned the project was stalling, it appointed receivers.
Administrators were appointed in 2012 when the bank’s lawyers became aware HMRC was ordering a winding-up petition for the company, which had only achieved two property sales by the end of 2011.
In its latest administrators’ progress report, filed on June 2, accountant RSM said all the apartments at The Landmark had been sold for £13.2 million.
Receivers are in the process of selling the freehold for the site, expected to be in the region of £300,000.
Cardy directors remained unavailable for comment.
