Permission has been granted to extend the Age UK care home at Herne Bay.
The work for the charity will be based on designs by Canterbury-based Clague Architects.
The approved extension on the Reculver Road site will provide additional day care facilities and further accommodation for rent to local charities and community groups, the revenue from which supports the running of Age UK Herne Bay & Whitstable centre.
Sue Cliffe from Age UK said: “There is still a long way to go as we need to raise the necessary funds but it’s a really important step in the right direction.”
Pat Mills, partner at Clague Architects, said: “Clague’s work at the Herne Bay centre started in 2008 when we designed the conversion and refurbishment of the former Friendly Society care home to provide the new home for Age UK Herne Bay & Whitstable. We were delighted to be asked by Sue to help with their new plans.
“Work to develop the proposals and to fund raise will begin in 2019 and we would hope Age UK to be able to open its new extension in 2020.”
