When a specialist IT firm offered an iPad in a Christmas prize draw, bosses hardly expected it to go to a Carol.
But Ian Wilkinson, managing director of Maidstone-based Absols Complete IT Solutions, was delighted with the festive connection when he presented the touch screen gadget to Carol Bentall - chief executive of the Young Kent charity - in Maidstone on Wednesday, December 17.
Even more seasonal was Carol’s revelation that her birthday is during the Christmas season.
“It’s entirely appropriate that at a time when so many of us are singing carols that a Carol should win the iPad,” Ian said.
“More than 200 business people entered our competition and I’m really pleased for Carol and the charity. It could not be better for us and the many young people who will benefit.”
"What a fantastic Christmas present..." - Carol Bentall
Carol said that she loved the iPad but felt it would do more good as the top prize in a fund-raising campaign to help 5,000 young people in Kent and Medway learn First Aid and life-saving skills.
“What a fantastic Christmas present,” she said. “It will help young people overcome barriers, reach their potential and have better futures.”
Carol, who previously worked for Business Link and The Prince’s Trust, added that the charity has set a £750,000 fund-raising target for 2015 and hoped to secure more corporate support.
Young Kent helps young people between eight and 25 across the county, including the disadvantaged and disabled. It works with 21,000 young people countywide.
