A cocktail ice cream maker inspired by a dinner party experiment is aiming to raise £150,000 to help it launch into major retailers and boost its market share.
With flavours like margarita and pina colada, more than 75 farm shops and delis have already begun stocking tubs of Boozy Udders.
Its founder Sarah Ward and her husband and business partner Russell have launched a crowdfunding campaign on Crowdcube to help it moo-ve on to bigger customers.
The company aims to occupy 5% of the UK’s luxury ice cream market within five years and generate turnover of £11 million and a 20% net profit.
Former actress Mrs Ward, who has mixology training and has worked for several large alcohol brands, developed her 4.5% ABV ice cream after looking for a pudding to cook for friends.
She said: “My creation was devoured by all our guests and that night went down amongst our friends as a night to remember.
“I knew then that something pretty monumental had happened and I was so excited to try some other cocktail ice cream combinations.
“My mission became to create a go-to pud for busy people who want to create fun times with something that’s new and just a little bit different.”
The company was launched in April last year at the Farm Shop and Deli Show at the NEC in Birmingham, where it won best new idea product.
Based in Eridge Park, near Tunbridge Wells, it has five year-round flavours and four seasonal flavours including the midsummer Strawberry Daiquiri and the Bramble autumn cocktail.
Susannah Hewitt of the Eggs to Apples Farm Shop in Hurst Green, which stocks the product, said her customers are “pleased to see something different and decadent in the ice cream freezers”.
“There are lots of different styles of ice cream these days but to find a cocktail one is quite unique,” she said.

“We see repeat buyers and the sales have increased, which is great for us too.”
Boozy Udders is offering 15.79% equity in the business in exchange for investment.
If the fundraising is successful, it will use the cash to recruit a managing director and a head of sales.
Mrs Ward also wants to expand the company’s manufacturing capacity and target major retailers.
The cash will also go towards developing the brand and packaging.
The company aims to be in two main grocery retailers and two distributors within six months and another two retailers and a foodservice company within a year.
Its team includes two former staff of organic baby food maker Ella’s Kitchen.
Brand advisor and investor Nicole McDonnell and marketing head Amanda Thomas helped grow Ella’s from zero to £100 million turnover in seven years.
Investors can pledge as little as £10.
The crowdfunding campaign runs until May 9.
