London Tube strikes: TfL warns Kent commuters of major problems on all lines

Kent's commuters are being warned of major disruption to the London Underground this week - with two strikes set to cause chaos on the network.

The dispute centres around jobs, pensions and conditions. Talks to avert the walk-outs, at conciliation service ACAS, broke down last week.

Now members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union will strike on Tuesday and Thursday.

Transport for London say the action could mean no services running on either day and "severe disruption" across all Tube lines the day after the walk-outs.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: "Our members will be taking strike action next week because a financial crisis at London Underground Ltd [the TfL subsidiary which operates the Tube network] has been deliberately engineered by the Government to drive a cuts agenda which would savage jobs, services, safety and threaten their working conditions and‎ pensions.

“These are the very same transport staff praised as heroes for carrying London through Covid for nearly two years, often at serious personal risk, who now have no option but to strike to defend their livelihoods.

“The politicians need to wake up to the fact that transport staff will not pay the price for this cynically engineered crisis.

“The union remains available for talks aimed at resolving the dispute.”
