Despite tough times in the building industry, today’s major construction expo aims to build expectations of a more flourishing future.

More than 1,000 delegates are expected at Chatham Historic Dockyard for the largest construction showcase in the south east. Nearly 100 exhibitors will be displaying their products and services.

It features top speakers from the industry, including David Philp from the Government’s Cabinet Office and a director of Balfour Beatty who will be talking about Building Information Modelling. Another highlight will be a boat tour of regeneration sites along Rochester Riverside, leaving at 3.30pm.

Workshops and special seminars are taking place across the day, focusing on regeneration, sustainability, innovation and growth.

Organisers Best Business Events said the event was the best way to keep ahead of engineering and design.

“Construction Expo is unique as it gives a great opportunity for business involved in one of the most important sectors to meet, network and learn about the best ways of moving forward and overcoming problems resulting from the recession.”

It opened this morning at 8.30am and closes at 4.30pm. The expo brings together clients, contractors, developers, colleges and other key related industry.

Cllr Jane Chitty, Medway council’s portfolio holder for strategic development and economic growth, is due to attend the expo.

She said: “At the heart of the Thames Gateway with a population of over a quarter of a million and a thriving business economy, Medway is continuing to grow and attract investment and the construction industry is key to this success and future growth.”

Jo James, chief executive of Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce, added: “The construction industry in Kent has displayed strength and versatility against a general trend that has been difficult for the industry as a whole It is paramount we expand this success.”

Although online registration has closed, delegates are invited to register on the day.

  • The event is supported by the University of Southampton, Kent Architecture Centre, Kent Construction Focus Group, the KM Group, and other major names from across the region.
