Jackey Bakers sports ground in Ramsgate finally set to see old changing rooms demolished this year

Thanet District Council has launched a bid to find a specialist contractor to demolish buildings at the Jackey Bakers recreation ground in Ramsgate.

It comes more than six months after plans to clear the existing buildings - disused and considered a health and safety hazard - were approved.

It is seeking to hire a firm to carry out the clearance and install new temporary modular changing rooms.

The local authority says it hopes work will begin in the first week of March and last for 10 weeks. A budget of £370,000 has been agreed by councillors.

The closing date for firms to express an interest in carrying out the work expires on February 10.

The project, submitted in May 2024, was approved by TDC’s planning committee during a meeting on June 26.

The beleaguered sports ground structure, which is plagued by vandalism and asbestos, has been labelled an eyesore by local campaigners.
