Demolition work on the former Northfleet Cement Works has been completed - paving the way for 532 new homes.
Housebuilder Bellway is set to transform the area into a development to be called Harbour Village - a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments and two-, three- and four-bedroom homes.
It forms part of the Ebbsfleet Garden City regeneration project.
Some 160 of the properties will be 'affordable' homes for rent or shared ownership.
Bellway has now completed almost all of the former cement works with groundworks set to start to begin laying the foundations for the first homes.
Outline planning permission for the development was granted in 2017, with detailed plans for the first phase of 121 homes getting the green light from Ebbsfleet Development Corporation’s planning committee in November last year.
John Haggerstone, construction director for Bellway Thames Gateway, said: “The completion of demolition work on the former Northfleet Cement Works is an important step in the process of regenerating this derelict brownfield site that has been disused for more than a decade.
“This development forms a key part of the wider Ebbsfleet Garden City project to deliver 15,000 new homes across a large area south of the River Thames.
“As well as providing 532 homes at Harbour Village, we are also providing a new community centre and creating two new public open spaces called Chimney View Park and Bevans Park and a new sports pitch for the local primary school and community to use."
The development will be open to customers from next year when the first batch of homes go on sale.
