A new company has launched a digital service designed to help ease loneliness and isolation of the elderly while restrictions remain in place due to Covid.
Let's Chat has been started by two occupational therapists in Hythe, Sarah Mousley and Sophie Jopling, who were unable to visit care homes to deliver their 'multi-sensory reminiscence groups' - aimed primarily at those with a recent diagnosis of dementia.
Now they have teamed up with Gravesend care home boss Tony Rana, who runs Sambhana Care in Gravesend, to provide a subscription video service for those in care homes or being cared for at home.
The themed videos are designed to stimulate conversation and memories.
The founding duo explained: "We wanted to be able to provide cognitively stimulating activities and to support engagement and connection during the pandemic which has been so isolating in so many ways.
"We teamed up with Tony Rana after we had some discussions about bringing occupational therapy into his home care business. His philosophy of an holistic style of care totally resonated with our way of working. He was excited about the potential of Let’s Chat and wanted to get involved.
"Dan Baber, who was already working alongside Tony completed our team with his technical expertise."
The videos have a fortnightly theme carefully chosen to appeal to the older person’s experiences. Watching them with a companion is designed to generate conversations.
A six-month subscription costs £12 a month.
