STAR performers in the farming world are invited to enter the National Farmers' Union Farming Excellence Awards 2003. The agricultural and horticultural equivalent of the Oscars, now in its fifth year, highlights the skill and innovation of farmers and growers across the country.
There are five categories in the awards - English Nature Wildlife Farmer of the Year, Farming Ambassador of the Year, The Great British Food Award, Farming Business of the Year and Young Farmer of the Year. There is also a special Daily Telegraph David Brown Award, which recognises an individual who is an outstanding example of farming excellence.
NFU South East spokeswoman, Isobel Bretherton, said: "There are hundreds of farmers and growers out there who are doing great things in their industry, but they insist on hiding their talents under a bushel. Whoever you are, don't be shy, get organised and get your entry in. It really is worth it in terms of promoting your business and highlighting the exemplary standards in British agriculture and horticulture."
The prize for most categories is £1,000, although the English Nature Wildlife Farmer award has a top of prize of £6,000 for the winner to spend on conservation measures on their farm.
Applicants must be fully paid-up farmer and grower members of the NFU or a member of the National Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs for the Young Farmer award. Entry forms are available on 0870 840 0638 or 01732 408000.
