EUJET have been given the go-ahead to operate 11 night flights a week at Kent International Airport over the summer.
Planes will be allowed to land during the night - although not take off - while the airline runs its summer schedule between April and September. There will then be a review of the Section 106 agreement, which governs rules about night flights, and the public will be consulted.
Cllr Bob Bayford, Thanet District Council deputy leader, denied accusations that the council has broken an agreement not to allow night flying.
He said: "I believe it is a very responsible decision. EUJet is a fledgling operation that has been responsible for the creation of 400 new jobs and we need to give it every support that we can at the moment.
"I can assure the residents of Thanet though that their views are going to be taken fully into account in the emerging Section 106 agreement and the consultation process will be very very thorough."
There are other restrictions in place for the summer night flying, including monitoring of noise levels, and the fact planes must land on a certain runway.
