WYE Farmers' Market is building on the success it has achieved
over the past three years and is expanding with the help of a
government grant.
Market manager Richard Boden has used a Rural Enterprise Scheme grant from Defra to appoint a market co-ordinator, and ensure that the
market develops and continues to meet the demand from communities and businesses in the region for locally produced food.
The new recruit, Lucy Tipton, works to increase sales and research
new services, which includes deliveries to shops, restaurants, pubs
and hotels. She is also responsible for publicising the market,
managing the set up of the market on Saturdays, and organising
entertainment for visitors.
Lucy said: "The market is a big success, not only because it's providing a forum for farmers and local producers to sell direct to the public, but it
also encourages people to visit other business in Wye, who themselves
benefit from the increased trade.
"Because of this, we successfully opened up every Saturday in
September and will do until Christmas. I am now looking
for more stallholders to fill the pitches."
