Festive celebrations light up December at St Michael’s Care Home

December is a time of celebration, connection and warmth at St Michael’s Care Home in Westgate-on-Sea.

This month, residents, families and staff will come together for a series of special events designed to bring joy, evoke cherished memories and foster a true sense of community.

The month-long festivities are a reflection of St Michael’s commitment to creating an enriching environment where everyday is meaningful -especially during the holiday season.

Transforming St Michael’s into a winter wonderland

As the first week of December arrives, St Michael’s is undergoing a stunning transformation into a winter wonderland. Every corner of the care home is adorned with sparkling lights and cherished decorations, creating a festive atmosphere that stirs nostalgia and sets the stage for a month of celebration.

The familiar sights of Christmas evoke fond memories and bring a warm glow to the hearts of all who pass through the care home’s doors.

Music, laughter and holiday spirit

The festivities started on December 5 with a performance by the talented Julie Williams, whose vibrant music lifted spirits and spread holiday cheer.

On December 9, the much-anticipated residents and family Christmas party will take place, featuring a charming Mother Goose panto performance by Eva Long Productions. This event promises to be a highlight of the season, filled with laughter, connection and treasured moments.

Continuing the musical theme, the St Saviours School Choir will visit on December 10 to fill our home with holiday songs. The following days will bring even more joy as Birchington Primary School join the residents for Christmas party on December 12, complete with a special visit from Santa Claus.

Nostalgia and reflection

On December 16, Martin the Crooner will bring smooth, nostalgic tunes that take residents on a musical journey back in time. With mulled wine and mince pies on offer, it’s a chance to reminisce and savour the festive atmosphere. December 17 will feature a moving performance by the Ursuline School Choir, blending traditional and contemporary carols in perfect harmony.

For those seeking a moment of quiet reflection, a Church of England service will be held in the care home’s historic chapel on December 18. This service offers residents and visitors a chance to pause, reflect and find peace amidst the holiday bustle.

Community and connection

On December 20 there will be a special Christmas carol service led by the Thanet Festival Choir, whose rich harmonies elevate the holiday spirit. Festivities will continue on December 23 with a performance by Java Jive, ensuring music, laughter and togetherness fill every corner of the home.

Christmas Day itself will be a truly memorable occasion. Mrs Claus will deliver presents room-to-room, bringing festive cheer to every resident. Families are invited to join for a traditional Christmas dinner, creating more happy memories together.

Residents and families, both old and new, will also be able to enjoy a cozy coffee morning on December 27. Finally, there will be a New Year’s Eve party on December 30, featuring a performance by Laura.
