Flybe, the regional airline with daily flights from Manston, aims to expand after confirming it hopes to raise £60m from a share offer.

The offer values the operator of services between Kent International Airport and Edinburgh and Manchester at around £200m.

It plans to invest proceeds from a successful offer in fleet expansion and other growth opportunities, including acquisition of other airlines.

Despite initial concerns about the Manchester service, Flybe has confirmed it is taking bookings for its Manston flights well into next year.

The airline carried 7.2 million passengers in the year to March 31 and achieved tunover of £570.5m, with EBITDAR (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, Amortization and Rent) of £90.9m. Its fleet of 68 aircraft consists of 14 Embraer E195 and 54 Bombardier Q400.

Flybe employs nearly 3,000 people and operates 215 routes from 73 airports, including Manston. It began operation in 1979 as Jersey European Airways. Subject to sufficient take-up, dealing could begin later this month.
