EVENTS stylist Frances Thomas has just returned home after organising all the decorations for the Royal Windsor Horse Show.
Frances, who lives in Stone Street, near Canterbury, was responsible for arranging and colour co-ordinating all the planting, flower displays, lights and decorative features for the whole show.
This included the VIP areas, those used by the Queen and her guests, the public arena and the sponsors’ section.
Frances was helped by Nick Ayling, from Hythe, a landscape architect and by Palmstead nurseries in Wye which provided all the plants.
"When I first started at the Royal Windsor show I just did the VIP areas and I have expanded from there over the past seven years," said Frances.
"It was a huge undertaking because it was the Queen’s 80th birthday so it was high profile, with lots of visiting royalty."
In addition to the 100-plus planters, Frances also took along antique stoneware to use around the ground.
One of the visiting royalty was Princess Haya, who is married to the ruler of Dubai. Frances worked for her earlier in the year at a horse show and is due to go back to Dubai again next year.
While at Windsor, the Queen gave a dinner for 300 with Frances arranging the flowers.
"I had two days to get everything ready and then throughout the show I had to replenish things and arrange the flowers for the dinners taking place each evening,” Frances said.
"The work is short and intense but I absolutely love it and when everything is finished and it is all put together it’s a great feeling."
Frances, who tries to use local companies, covers all kinds of events, including conferences, shows and product launches.
She did lots of work as part of the Olympic bid and also covers the horse show at Olympia.
