The Open Golf Championship is set to give Kent golf tourism - and the wider economy - a boost for the next two years.

That's the forecast by VisitKent, the organisation that promotes the county as a great place to visit and was singled out for praise by Peter Alliss, the BBC commentator and golfing legend.

Alliss complimented the organisation on air for its hard work in attracting visitors to the tournament and making them so welcome.

VisitKent is capitalising on the Open by promoting the county as an international golfing destination with more than 100 quality courses. A special book has been prepared to promote the venues.

Sandra Matthews-Marsh, chief executive, was delighted with the global television coverage, saying it should inspire more people to visit the county in the coming two years.

It was important that the four-day event was not a one-off success story.

"Throughout our marketing campaign to develop Kent as a top European golfing destination, launched at the European Golf Championship at London Golf Club in 2009, we have been working closely with all our golf courses, accommodation providers, international golf tourism providers and the global golf media.

"We have been building awareness of the fantastic courses and facilities available in our county. And the interest has been phenomenal.

"Kent is a perfect destination for golfers of all levels - right on London's doorstep.

"Plus there is a wealth of attractions for family members not so eager to spend all their time on the greens."
