SMALL and medium-sized companies in parts of Thanet and Sandwich can now apply for enterprise grants up to £150,000.

Businesses in the Objective 2 wards of Cecil, Central Eastcliff, Ethelbert, Minster, Newington, Northdown Park, Pier, St. Lawrence, St. Peter's, Salmestone, Sandwich (Dover), Southwood and Thanet Parishes can now receive up to 30% grant, compared to the previous level of 15%.

The grants are aimed at helping firms with fewer than 250 employees to make capital investments, which would not otherwise go ahead. Projects can involve expanding, modernising or restructuring an existing business or setting up a new one. Schemes that only serve local markets will not normally qualify for assistance.

Cllr Bob Bayford, Thanet council cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, said: "Enterprise Grants are a useful tool to help attract inward investors, as they can help new businesses to start up.

“Grants can also be used by existing companies to expand, modernise or restructure, thus supporting Thanet's economy.

“The council’s economic development unit can advise local businesses on whether their projects would qualify for an enterprise grant."
