PEOPLE interested in the future of Whitstable Harbour are invited to join the new management board.
Four volunteers who are "independent-minded and with appropriate expertise" will be selected to work with five councillors.
The board will be responsible for managing the harbour and implementing the council's plans for the future, which see the port continuing to be used for leisure and cargo handling.
Applicants must have an interested in public service and be committed to developing the harbour, making it financially self-supporting while balancing the interests of different people who use it.
These include fishermen, Brett and other cargo businesses and leisure firms like the Crab and Winkle Restaurant.
There will be at least six meetings a year, held in Whitstable. Expenses will be reimbursed and training will be provided.
David Reed, director of development and planning at the council, said: "The harbour plays a major role in the local economy and is vital to the town.
"Exciting times are ahead and we would like to hear from anyone who feels they have useful expertise to offer to ensure the harbour thrives for many years to come."
