ANOTHER big business is moving into a Kent town – with the company saying jobs will be created in the future as it expands.

The news comes less than a month after Ocado said it would be applying for planning permission for a 10,000 sq ft warehouse with offices close to the Bridge development in Dartford.

Up to 350 jobs could be available at Ocado.

Now Moss Electrical has bought an £8 million, 150,000 sq ft warehouse in Sandpit Road, Dartford, and is set to move in today.

The company, which now operates from a distribution facility in Canning Town, East London, is hoping to more than treble its storage capacity with the transfer.

It is one of the largest independent electrical wholesalers in the UK, stocking everything from light fittings to water-heating equipment.

Currently, there are 80 people working for the firm.

A company spokesman said: "We have already taken on four locals and are looking for another two or three.

"It is envisaged that we will be expanding further with more jobs hopefully in the near future."

Its new premises, previously owned by AXA Real Estate Investment Managers, has had an extensive internal refit to provide increased work space, training facilities and space for stock.

Robert Moss, the company’s managing director, said: "Our new warehousing and distribution facility will further improve efficiency and delivery schedules for all our customers.

"This investment is vital to keep up with present and future expansion in an industry that is becoming more and more demanding."

Dartford Council’s leader Cllr Jeremy Kite said that although some councils were looking to introduce new businesses, he felt it was also important to invest in big businesses as they were often more reliable.

He said: "Robert Moss has built a fantastic company. Financially, the decision to move into Dartford from London is very good for the company.

"All the hard work we have been doing is paying off – we don’t spin this stuff until it happens. These big companies are attracted to the work we have done in the town."
