A record number of applications were received for this year’s Kent Excellence in Business Awards (KEiBA).
More than 300 entries have been sent in, with the judges facing the challenge of picking 46 finalists.
The awards, which take place at Kent Showground, Detling, are run by Kent County Council and KM Group.
Mark Dance, KCC cabinet member for economic development, said: “The KEiBA awards are undoubtedly one of the highlights of the year for the business community in Kent and it’s fantastic to see the huge number of entries we’ve received.
“It truly is fantastic that we have this opportunity to recognise and promote the successes and achievements of everything from rural firms, manufacturers and web developers to apprentices and sole traders – showing that Kent really is open for business.”
Morag Welham, head of special interest at the KM Group, said: “The 319 entries are 16% above last year, with three of the 15 categories having their best year ever.”
KM Group chairman Geraldine Allinson said: “The increase in entries for KEiBA this year shows how important it is to business that there is an opportunity to celebrate achievement.
“It is very heartening, in these ongoing tough times, to see that so many of Kent’s businesses have such impressive success stories.
“I am sure that the judges will have a tough job whittling these entries down to just 46 finalists.”
The awards ceremony takes place on Thursday, June 25.
