A free forum takes place later this month for landlords to discuss changes impacting on the sector.
Organised by the National Landlords Association (NLA) and Ashford Borough Council, landlords from across the county are invited to hear about changes to the law for the private rented sector, including the extension of mandatory licensing and room sizes governing houses in multiple occupation.
It takes place on Monday, June 18 at the Civic Centre in Ashford.
Kevin Bush, regional manager south east for the Electrical Contractors Association, will provide an update on landlords’ responsibilities for electrical safety, while advice on property tax matters will be the focus of a presentation by Stephen Metcalf, a senior tax manager at chartered accountants Kreston Reeves.
Housing officers from Ashford Borough Council will lead discussions on a range of topical issues, including the introduction of universal credits this summer and the extension of its ABC Lettings and property management service across the region.
The NLA’s Marion Money said: “I will be organising a quiz based on the raft of new legislation which is being introduced in the second half of this year to ensure that delegates get a full understanding of the major changes that will impact on their businesses.”
Sylvia Roberts, senior housing options officer at Ashford Borough Council, said: “Welfare reform is a hot topic at the moment and by attending this forum private landlords will get a comprehensive overview of what’s happening in their sector.”
The event is free to attend for private sector landlords and runs from 10.45am. Lunch and refreshments are included.
