THE friendly face of Allan Willett, the Lord Lieutenant of Kent, is soon to be used to promote all that is good about the county.
The Queen's representative at ceremonial occasions is to be given a broader dimension in an attempt to encourage inward investment, tourism and other initiatives that could enhance Kent's international profile.
The lieutenancy of Kent is offering its support to local government, business and other organisations concerned with the county's international dimension.
In a letter to relevant organisations, Mr Willett has been reflecting on ways in which his office can serve the county in support of the many important international dimensions of Kent life and activity.
The Lord Lieutenant says: "Our firm conclusion is that the Lieutenancy should hold itself available to help when requested.
"It should not be pro-active internationally but react when the local authority or other county organisations believe it can successfully enhance and support their plans and add value."
He advocates an outward looking and international approach when making public statements.
He urges organisations to meet to discuss international activity among themselves or with representatives from other countries and suggests the presence of members of the Royal Family, or the Lieutenancy, at events with an international dimension.
Mr Willett would like to see his office involved in advocacy for non-political projects generally considered to be of benefit to the Kent community.
The Lieutenancy could also prove useful in developing relationships abroad designed to add value or open paths for county organisations to develop.
Robert Alston, Deputy Lieutenant, has been closely involved in the framing of the Lieutenancy's initiative.
A former diplomat, he advises Mr Willett on international affairs.
