Next, he was planning an independent trip to Polis on the local bus network.

But this never happened, as Colin was admitted to hospital with a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in both legs, staying in for several days after treatment was started to disperse the blood clots.

Then they deployed an English speaking paramedic who flew out to Cyprus to accompany him back to Manchester, where an ambulance team would be waiting to take him home.

“It was a great relief to know this was happening. It meant I could relax and enjoy my recuperation at the hotel, before I was repatriated on the first day that I was able to fly,” said Colin.
