The agency spearheading the transformation of North West Kent has a new boss.
Paul Williams has been appointed acting chief executive of the Northfleet-based Kent Thameside Delivery Board, a key mover in the huge Thames Gateway project, the biggest regenerations scheme in Europe.
There are ambitious plans for 30,000 new homes and 50,000 new jobs in Kent Thameside, which covers the boroughs of Dartford and Gravesham, over the next few years.
It covers 22 square miles, including Eastern Quarry, the new residential development close to Bluewater, and a proposed massive commercial scheme close to Ebbsfleet International Station.
Mr Williams takes over from Michael Ward who has moved on to become chief executive of the British Urban Regeneration Association (Bura).
Mr Williams was formerly deputy to Mr Ward and has extensive experience in the Thames Gateway. He previously worked with former deputy prime minister John Prescott on the project between 2001 and 2004. He joined the delivery board in 2004 as environmental project manager.
His job is to work closely with public and private sectors, including Dartford and Gravesham councils, Kent County Council, and developer Land Securities.
Stephen Jordan, acting chairman of the Kent Thameside Delivery Board, said: "I’m delighted that Paul Williams has agreed to provide continuing leadership for the important work of the Delivery Board so that we don’t miss a beat.
"He has valuable experience, both within the organisation and within the wider Kent and Thames Gateway environments. Paul will ensure that our delivery programme continues from strength to strength."
Mr Williams said: "The regeneration of Kent Thameside has progressed rapidly recently with the delivery of a number of high quality housing and public realm projects and the opening of Ebbsfleet International station.
"But there is still a great deal to be done and I aim to utilise the momentum that has now built up. I am committed to ensuring that the development here meets the needs of the existing community as well as delivering the very highest quality of development."
