The former boss of the Port of London Authority has become the new chairman of the owner and operator of the Port of Dover.
Richard Everitt takes over the job at Dover Harbour Board from George Jenkins, who stands down after taking the helm in 2013.
Mr Everitt was chief executive of the Port of London Authority from 2004 to 2014, during which time he was also chairman of the UK Major Ports Group for four years.
He was chief executive of National Air Traffic Services from 2001 to 2004 and before that was an executive director at BAA.
Brought up in east Kent and an ex-pupil of Harvey Grammar School in Folkestone, he is chairman of aeroplane broker Air Partners and the Thames Skills Academy.
Mr Everitt said: “It is a privilege to be asked to lead the Dover Harbour Board at this time.
“The port is a vital part of the transport infrastructure of this country and I look forward to working with the board and the whole team at the port as we continue to build strong links with the Dover community and our customers and invest for future growth.”
The port handles more than £100 billion of trade annually, including 2.5 million freight vehicles and 13 million passengers.
Chief executive Tim Waggott thanked outgoing chairman Geoge Jenkins, before adding: “Richard Everitt brings a wealth of expertise and industry knowledge.
“With his support in leading our excellent board through the many challenges ahead I continue to look forward to a bright future for the Port of Dover, our customers and community.”
Mr Jenkins said: “I have really enjoyed my time with the Dover Harbour Board.
“We have made great strides in the last few years, and I wish Richard every success in the continuing journey of this great organisation.”
