THE Chatham and Strood branches of Woolworths will be kept open for a further day.

The High Street, Chatham shop was due to close today, Friday, but will now be kept open for another day as there is still stock to be sold.

The Strood store in the High Street was due to close on Monday but will also be opened for a further day.

Many branches, including stores in Gillingham High Street and Twydall, have already been closed.

Hundreds of jobs have been lost in the closures after administrators Deloitte said it had failed to find a buyer for the retailer.

Its administration was announced in November.

Medway has the largest concentration of Woolworths stores in Kent.
