The Port of Dover is safe - and that's official.
The busy terminal has been awarded a seal of approval for its occupational
health and safety performance.
National Standards body BSI has given it the OHSAS 18001 certification, an internationally recognised achievement.
Assessors did not find any problems - or “non-conformance” - with the port’s performance in this area.
They highlighted various aspects of its safety culture, including emergency response, fire risk, professional insight and management oversight.
Chief executive Bob Goldfield said: “We put safety at the very core of our activities.
"Everyone in the organisation is a dedicated professional who together deliver the safe port operation we expect and users of the port deserve.”
He added: “It is down to our excellent people and their exceptional care and vigilance working 24/7 within the intensive operations of Europe’s busiest ferry port.
“We will never be complacent and such an achievement, established within a strong safety culture, provides an excellent platform on which to continue growing our highly professional and successful business.”
