A FIRM'S £2 million move to Tonbridge is helping restore the town's reputation for printing, according to Sir John Stanley, MP for Tonbridge and Malling. He welcomed the move by CPG - Complete Print Group - from Tunbridge Wells to Orchard Business Centre, Tonbridge.

After sharing the honours of opening the new company headquarters in Sanderson Way with Archie Norman, MP for Tunbridge Wells, Sir John said it was encouraging to see more printing businesses moving to Tonbridge. The town had become an attractive centre for a new generation of hi-tech printers.

"Over most of the last century, Tonbridge was a major source of work and employment in the printing industry," Sir John said. "Sadly, we lost all these businesses for a combination of reasons, including an inability to change."

Mr Norman followed CPG's progress at Colebrook Industrial Estate, Tunbridge Wells, and was sorry to lose the firm to the neighbouring constituency. CPG was special, he said. "It's a lovely family business. The only sadness is it's leaving me to go to Sir John."

CPG - formerly known as the Colour Printing Group - was founded in 1986. Since then, directors Dick Kirkham and Hugh Porter have steered the company to a £2.5 million turnover and a 16-strong workforce. It specialises in high-quality glossy publications. Clients include Coca-Cola - it has recently produced a World Cup chart sponsored by the cola giant - the BBC, local insurer NPI, The National Trust, and Buckingham Palace.

Mr Kirkham, Pembury-born managing director who started his career on a six-year apprenticeship, said: "We're very ambitious, we know where we want to go. Our main thing is honesty and integrity. Mr Porter said the company would grow over the next few years and this would mean more jobs.
