Rising from the ashes

A NEW McDonalds fast food restaurant will open at Sturry, near Canterbury, on April 19 - less than 40 days after the original building was destroyed by fire. Arsonists parked a stolen car in the drive-through bay of the outlet and set it alight.

McDonalds has spent £500,000 building a completely new restaurant. A spokesman said: "We have looked at some new security measures, however it is difficult to protect against such determined criminals. We are very concerned about the fire due to the disruption caused to our customers and staff and, of course, the danger to fire-fighters who tackled the blaze."
