Law firm Brachers has signed a corporate sponsorship deal with Canterbury Rugby Club in a deal designed to soften the blow of the pandemic on the club's finances.
The firm, which has offices in Canterbury and Maidstone, says its investment will help subsidise the loss of income the club has experienced since the first lockdown last March.
The club, which plays in National League 2 South, has been forced to cancel matches and fundraising events due to the restrictions caused by the health crisis.
Investment from sponsors has also allowed the club to remain open as a community facility whilst matches are unable to take place, with one pitch available to those who wish to use it for private exercise. This has ensured people within the local area have access to a dedicated open space in which they can exercise safely and in line with current restrictions.
Alexandra Gordon, partner at Brachers, said: “We know how important a facility such as the rugby club is to a community and the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns have reaffirmed just how essential outdoor spaces and exercise are in supporting people’s physical and mental health.
"We are very happy that our sponsorship will help the club to remain open for the people who need it during this difficult time.
"Canterbury is host to a number of great community-led initiatives and we look forward to supporting more of them over the coming year.”
Giles Hilton, club chairman, added: “In these difficult times, support is very welcome to ensure the future of a great rugby club.”
