Scientists at a Faversham firm have developed a new alcohol-free sanitiser which they claim acts like an "invisible glove" to help fight against coronavirus .

Tests are ongoing, but those working at SANZi say the sanitiser forms a "protective barrier" when used which gives users protection for hours at a time.

It is hoped it will prove an effective form of defence against a host of viruses and bacteria.

A spokesman for the firm explained: " Alcohol-based gels and sanitisers work to kill bacteria and enveloped viruses for just a few seconds, because they are only active until the alcohol evaporates.

"The active ingredients in SANZi products are seventh generation Quaternary Ammonium Compounds (QAC). This is the most advanced development of a range of chemicals that have been used in healthcare settings for many years.

"Once applied, the active ingredients in SANZi bond to the skin or a surface forming a protective microscopic layer which destroys the harmful bacteria and enveloped viruses immediately on contact.

"The process of destroying pathogens using QAC based products is known as Lysis and will continue until the layer has been physically removed."
