HEROES behind hundreds of small, successful businesses run by young people in the South East will rewarded through The Prince’s Trust and Barclays Business Volunteer Awards.
More than 8,000 people volunteer to mentor Prince’s Trust business start-ups and the awards are to thank them and to highlight their professional support.
Since 1983, The Trust has helped more than 50,000 young people to launch their own businesses and approximately 60 per cent are still trading into their third year.
The Prince’s Trust and Barclays are calling on these youngsters to help identify the Mentor of the Year.
Nomination forms are available from all Prince’s Trust offices. Closing date for nominations is June 14.
Among The Prince’s Trust’s business mentors are 243 Barclays managers who undertake the role on a voluntary basis.
Mike Rogers, managing director, small business and start-ups at Barclays, said: "We are delighted to be able to support this programme for a second year running.
"It celebrates the real difference which The Prince’s Trust business mentors make to the young people they support.
"The role of mentors is a vital one in releasing the business potential and enthusiasm of young people who would not otherwise have had the opportunity to start a business."
The Prince’s Trust and Barclays Business Volunteer Awards will comprise eleven regional heats culminating in a national award ceremony in November 2002.
