Sheppey charities and community groups to benefit from a new Southern Water fund

Sponsored Editorial

By way of giving back, Southern Water is offering Sheppey residents the chance to nominate a charity, community group or volunteer-led group that supports the local area to receive a donation.

The donations will come from Southern Water’s Sheppey Community Fund, which has been launched by the water supplier to celebrate the Sheppey-based organisations that are most valued in the local community.

.

Nominations are open to all organisations supporting communities in Sheppey, including charities; projects that benefit communities and families as opposed to individuals; and organisations that can demonstrate a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

The shortlist of charities and groups matching the criteria will be announced, and Sheppey residents will be able to vote for their favourite via Southern Water’s website or social media platforms.

Once the organisations with the most votes are revealed, Southern Water will proceed to make payments. It is hoped that the money will help the charities and groups continue the excellent work they are doing in the Sheppey community.

To find out more and to make a nomination, visit www.southernwater.co.uk/customer-and-community-grants/sheppey-community-fund.

Nominations close on August 1.

To coincide with the launch of the new fund, Southern Water has issued a statement apologising for an incident two weeks ago, which left some residents without water.

LETTER TO SOUTHERN WATER CUSTOMERS

We are very sorry that you were left without water two weeks ago when we had a burst water main on the Isle of Sheppey. This was very difficult during the hot weather, and had a huge impact on your community.

I’m sorry for the disruption and distress that this caused. We’re doing everything we can to make this right. Hopefully, you’ve already seen details of our compensation scheme, and we can now reveal details of our Sheppey Community Fund.

This fund will provide donations to support your favourite local charities, community and volunteer-led groups on the Isle of Sheppey. And, to make sure the money is going where it’s needed most, we’re encouraging you to nominate your preferred charity or community group.

Just head to www.southernwater.co.uk/customer-and-community-grants/sheppey-community-fundand cast your vote. Voting will close on Monday, August 1, and a shortlist will be published on our website and across our social media platforms, so please keep an eye out for your chance to nominate.

Alongside the fund, we’re also supporting Swale Pride and Festival of the Sea so come and meet our volunteers in August.

Yours sincerely,

Katy Taylor
