A partner at a solicitors in Ashford has retired, bringing to an end 82 years of service between him and his father at the same firm.
Richard Rix served his last day at Hallett & Co on Monday having joined the legal practice in 1974.
His father, Edward Rix, became a parter at the firm in 1934, an appointment which was announced in KM Group newspaper the Kentish Express.
The pair worked together for five years at the business before Richard was made a partner in 1980.
He has been a lifetime advisor to many clients, serving three generations of the same family in some cases, giving guidance on legal rights and liabilities.
He said in a legal career “you have to like meeting people from all backgrounds” and said “there is as much merit in a face to face meeting even in this age of electronic communication”.
“I am often referred to as ‘our family solicitor’,” said Mr Rix, “which I initially felt indicated a lack of specialist expertise.
“Now I am certain it reflects an extremely valuable relationship, and that many clients feel I treat them as friends.”
Mark Dewey, senior partner at Hallett & Co, said: “Richard has a friendly and welcoming approach which has engendered great loyalty amongst his clients and contributed to Hallet & Co’s growth in recent years.”
In retirement, Mr Rix will spend more time with his 20-month old grandchild and keep up his hobbies, which include gardening, fishing and photography.
