Health and wellbeing in the workplace are hot topics as Kent prepares to host an all-day event on the issues for the first time.

Experts will play a key role at the Kent Wellbeing Symposium being held at the Kent Event Centre, Kent County Showground, Detling, on October 3 and aimed at all employers.

The pioneering event is sponsored by Marden-based Water Wellbeing, part of Water for Work and Home.

Managing director Ben McGannan, pictured left, is putting together the symposium to offer employers a chance to learn more about the county's health and wellbeing partnerships.

It will give delegates a chance to dictate their own agenda with a choice of workshops, expert talks and subject sessions.

Employment is known to have a positive impact on health and wellbeing. By keeping staff happy and motivated, experts say that turnover is reduced, sickness lowered and productivity boosted.

Symposium speakers will cover partnerships, mental health, leadership, staff retention and motivation, while workshops will cover cooking and healthy eating, with live demonstrations. It is targeted at a wide range of organisations, including businesses of all sizes, schools, local councils and housing associations.

Keynote speaker is Dame Carol Black, the government’s expert and advisor on health and wellbeing. She will talk about the Workplace Wellbeing Charter, a voluntary scheme to help employers demonstrate their commitment to the health and wellbeing of their workforce.

Organisations taking part in the event include PPC Worldwide, Expressions, Mindful Employer, Kent County Council, Head Works, Golding Homes, Life Partnership, NHS Community Trust.
