Start on container port 'next year'

THE latest development plan to be unveiled in the Thames Gateway regeneration area is for Britain's largest container port to be built on the old oil refinery site at Shell Haven, Thurrock.

It will create 16,500 jobs, include a 2,300 metre container quay handling upto 3.5 million containers a year, 10 million square feet of commercial space and two RoRo facilities for ships loading bow/stern. P&O hope to start building next year.
