A SPECIAL brick has been formulated for the new Fenwick department store under construction in Canterbury city centre. The bricks are being made by Hammill, a family-run business based 11 miles away near Sandwich.
Managing director Hugo Fenwick and his management team were involved in the choice of cladding materials. Working closely with the architects, they specified a unique blend of colour, designed to fit in with the surrounding historic architecture. The reulting brick is called the Fenwick multi-stock.
Now more than 110,000 in 1,500 special shapes have been ordered and will soon be seen in place as the building continues to take shape. The construction of the new department store is a year ahead of schedule and it is now due to open in March next year.
