Stripping off for new store

WOULD you strip down to your undies in public for £50?

More than 20 people did just that to mark the opening of Store 21 in Biggin Street on Saturday.

Store 21 is a new concept being trialled by QS at 13 stores across the country, and Dover was one of only six with the Who Bares Wins promotion.

The first 21 people, aged 18 or over, who were prepared to go through the doors dressed only in their underwear, were given a £50 voucher so they could buy some clothes to help cover up.

A queue of people - of all ages - formed at the door and as the noon deadline approached they peeled off their outer clothing to reveal a variety of underwear.

Some - including John Weir - only found out about the promotion as they walked past the store.

“I didn’t know it was happening,” said John. “But I decided to join in. It was worth it for £50.”

In addition to his underwear, Ben Feasey sported a very fetching bow-tie.

Emma McLaren said she had agreed to meet up with friends outside the store to take part. “But they didn’t turn up,” she said. “I went ahead with it anyway. It was great, something very different for Dover.”

Company spokeswoman Sophie Boucher was delighted with the response - and pleased that the sun was shining for them.

She said: “For many people, being 21 is the happiest time in their life, and Store 21 is all about enjoying contemporary fashion with carefree confidence – whether you’re 18 or 45.”
