Sunday shopping shoots up

SUNDAY trade in Maidstone town centre has almost doubled this year compared to last.

The number of people shopping in the town centre on a Sunday is up 47 per cent from 11,891 a day in 2001 to 17,282 on one day this summer.

The overall increase in the number of shoppers is three per cent excluding Sundays or six per cent including Sunday figures.
