The end of the week, thank goodness. Does it get busier as it gets sunnier?

At least it is sunny, which, judging by conversations with other businesses, always brings more people out and spending.

In fact, Melvin my neighbouring farmer was almost happy about the weather this week – and that never happens.

Thank you to my committee members for their contribution to a very productive away day, which preceded the AMM at Kent Life.

From this we have a long list of action points and I hope most members will have already received a personal email from me as we aim to build up a database of Kent members who are happy to be contacted locally.

It seems most people agree that we have so many events it is hard to keep on top of them, so we are working to create and maintain a healthy level of reminders of what is coming up. That was action point one – already achieved. Eighteen left to do.

The day after the AMM we hosted a lunch at Allington Castle, thanks to Sir Robert Worcester and Johnston Campbell. Who even knew there was a castle near DFS in Maidstone? What a beautiful place (the castle) and a gracious and very interesting host.

The highlight was then finding a field of llamas or alpacas or something. (Just Googled it – I think they were alpacas.)

The following week I caught up with Fourayes Farm again. After what was a very interesting tour around the factory, we are discussing a company visit as I found it fascinating what machinery can do and how precise it is possible to be.

They are a fine example of another Kent family-run company operating nationally in a sophisticated manner and I am sure there are lessons to be learnt and partnerships to be formed throughout the county.

Following on from my mention of Port of Dover regeneration last month, as promised we are working to highlight the business and community scope that this project can expect to generate.

We hosted a pub hub and I took 20 members to London for my Global Radio company visit where they enjoyed spotting John Suchet, Jamie Theakston and Myleene Klass before we had lunch in the boardroom with a view over London. Perhaps unwise to visit the pub afterwards.

And finally, we have been working with Dreamland and hope to report on progress with that soon.

RAP office interiors are giving me some help and we held welcome drinks for our new IoD partners MHA McIntyre Hudson on the river in Maidstone – a beautiful evening where most guests only had one eye on the football.
