A business telecoms company has been awarded a £4m contract to provide cabling services for Kent County Council.

ICOM will design and install cable works for all the authority’s buildings and projects which require them.

The deal is worth £1m a year, stretched over four years, with the firm selected partly because a local company reduces the carbon footprint of the works.

The business, based in Beddow Way, Aylesford, provides telecoms, CCTV, data centre services and fire and security systems.

Sales director Kevin Godfrey said: “It is fantastic for a local company to have won a large public sector contract and it will provide a major boost to our business.

“It will also create jobs for local people, so it is beneficial for the county that Kent County Council have kept the work within the region rather than further afield.

“ICOM has a strong heritage in supply and installation of cutting-edge and easily adaptable infrastructure systems and we are looking forward to demonstrating our capabilities and delivering a strong performance for Kent County Council.”

Kent County Council’s ICT networks functional lead Ricky Sahni said: “It is a pleasure to have been able to award this contract to a successful local company, keeping business within Kent.

“ICOM were chosen for the quality of their proposal and the value for money they could offer. We are looking forward to working with them over the coming years.”
