NINETY years after making its first hair clippers, electrical goods multinational Wahl is to open a hairdressing academy at its base in Herne Bay.

The first students start at the centre in Herne Bay Trade Park, Sea Street, on January 30, and there is a waiting list.

Simon Shaw, artistic director for Wahl UK, said: "Our customers said our products were the best, but they could do with more education on how best to use them.

"We decided to launch our own academy, which will cover everything from basic to catwalk fashion techniques.

"All of our students are qualified hairdressers, but they want to learn more."
