HOUSEHOLDERS who intend to install replacement windows or doors are being advised to make sure that the work meets new government regulations.
Tough energy-saving measures will mean that owners who place their houses on the market will have to produce evidence to the purchasers that any replacement glazing carried out after April 2002 complies with the new regulations.
The evidence will be in the form of a certificate showing that the work has been carried out by an installer registered under the FENSA scheme or one from the borough council's building control service.
The government-approved FENSA scheme has been set up by the Glass and Glazing Federation to allow glazing installation companies to meet certain criteria to self-certify that heir work complies with the building regulations.
If householders have replacement windows or doors installed by a firm which is not registered, or they carry out the work as a DIY project, they will need full borough council approval.
The regulations will not apply to contracts signed before March 31 2002. Further information from Mike Ingram on 01732 876251
