South East Water: Working together this summer

Sponsored Editorial

Summer, with its radiant sunshine and seemingly endless days, beckons us outdoors.

But to truly make the most of these golden days, we must come together in our efforts towards using water wisely, reducing the amount we all use. This is why South East Water’s commitment is clear: “Working together we can all enjoy summer.”

.

Water, in its abundance, often feels like an endless resource. This may make us believe that if something is readily available and affordable to some, it's limitless. But the reality is very different. Clean, treated water is a treasure, and its value is immeasurable.

Commitment to saving water

South East Water champions using water wisely and has ambitious targets to work with customers and reduce the annual water consumption by more than 8% by 2025.

The journey so far has been challenging yet promising. Consumption rose during the pandemic, however, since 2021, this has fallen year on year, and we have been able to reduce consumption by nearly 10 per cent. Part of the work South East Water does to help customers be more water-wise is to offer a multitude of water-saving products for free, such as a free water-saving shower head. Pick yours up here.

Water saving isn't just an organisational goal; it's a collective responsibility. Here's how you can contribute:

Mindful Consumption: The average hosepipe uses 170 litres of drinking quality water every 10 minutes, that’s around 19 toilet flushes or two bathtubs every 10 minutes. So, whether it's opting for a watering can over a hosepipe or being conscious of indoor water use, every drop saved counts.

Embrace change: Simple and small swaps or switches in daily habits can lead to significant water savings. Such as having a 4-minute shower could save a typical household £75 off their energy bills, according to the Energy Saving Trust.

Stay Informed: By understanding the sources and journey of our water, from reservoirs to taps, we can foster a deeper appreciation and commitment to its conservation.

.

Summer is a testament to nature's bounty, but it's also a reminder of our duty to protect and preserve. By championing water saving and working together, we can ensure a future where every summer is not just enjoyable but sustainable.

Join us in our mission, and together, let's make every drop count.
