A 26-YEAR old theatrical agent from Tunbridge Wells has become a business role model after winning a top award for young entrepreneurs. Anna Crilly was named Kent Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year at the county final in the Corn Exchange, Rochester.
Anna, whose business Casting Stone is based at Clanricarde Gardens, Tunbridge Wells, won the £1,200 first prize, made up of £600 in cash and £600 in free accounting. Casting Stone is a theatrical recruitment agency that places actors, singers, promotional staff and voiceover artists in suitable roles and positions.
Anna, a former pupil of Kent College Pembury, outshone five other young entrepreneurs to claim the top prize in the 2002 Shell LiveWIRE Young Business Start Up Awards. She now goes on to represent Kent at the south east regional final at Brands Hatch on May 9. Runner-up Claire Ann's Complete Bridal Wear, from Ramsgate, will also compete in the regional final.
Anna was delighted with her triumph. She said: "It's a great boost for my business and I'm looking forward to competing in the regional final." Stephen Lovett, Kent Shell LiveWIRE co-ordinator based at Medway Chamber of Commerce, Sunderland Quay, Medway City Estate, said: "The judges were very impressed with Anna, and her business has outstanding potential. Anna's enthusiasm and ability make her a real LiveWIRE."
The judges were Alison Moore of accounting firm HLB Kidsons, Carol Harries of Bridge Wardens College, Chatham Historic Dockyard, and Jane Bushell and Dawn Busby of Barclays Bank. The contest was backed by HLB Kidsons, Medway Council, Bridge Wardens College, Business Link Kent, and Medway Chamber of Commerce. It is open to anyone between 16 and 30.
