A TEAM of young entrepreneurs showed they had what it takes to make it big when they won through to the county finals of a business scheme.
The youngsters, from Rainham Mark Grammar School, were presented with their award after wowing judges with their company Rubio Ithidia.
Over a year, the teenagers had to come up an idea for a company, work out a business plan, sell shares, open a real bank account, appoint each other to various positions in the business and then make their merchandise.
Their work culminated in a Powerpoint presentation on the company and the setting up of a stand to promote it and market the merchandise.
At the Medway Young Enterprise area final, held at BAE Systems, Rochester, the team of 15 beat off eight other groups.
The group's company sold homemade bric-a-brac, dependent on the time of year, and set up events. Among the merchandise was roses for Valentine's Day and candles and mirrors for Christmas.
The team also organised fizz and quiz evenings -- a combination of questions and lemonade.
Young Enterprise Medway chairman Toni Clarke said: "They impressed the judges with their stand and their presentation. It was first class and they are a good contender for the cup."
The groups must now wind down their companies by paying the VAT and folding.
Ms Clarke said: "The scheme is about team building and provides the youngsters with all sorts of training needed for the adult world. They must take exams which are the equivalent of two GCSEs. All in all it is a very comprehensive learning experience."
