£10,000 snatched in post office robbery

DETECTIVES are hunting two armed robbers who escaped with more than £10,000 from a village post office after threatening a shop assistant with a sawn-off shotgun.

The men burst into the post office in Aylesford High Street at about 4.50pm on Tuesday and threatened a female member of staff before smashing a security screen.

The pair then loaded more than £10,000 into a silver Vauxhall Cavalier waiting outside.

The car, which had been stolen in London last Friday, was later found in the car park at Aylesford Priory.

The post office was immediately shut as police forensic teams searched for evidence. It is not expected to re-open until sometimes on Friday.

Both raiders were white. The man holding the gun was older than the other, 5ft 8ins, thin, wearing a grey woolly hat and scarf. His accomplice is in his early 20s, 5ft 8ins, stocky, with dark hair and eyes.

Anyone with information is asked to telephone Det Supt John Fox or Det Con Kyla Worrell on 01622 608182 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
