WADS of stolen Securitas cash totalling nearly £10 million were found stuffed into holdalls at an industrial estate linked to a robbery suspect, a jury at the Old Bailey was told.

Police officers discovered £9,655,040 bundled into 12 bags in a container at ENR Cars in Welling when they raided the premises on March 2 last year.

The cash was part of a haul of £53 million snatched by robbers who targeted the Tonbridge depot of Securitas on February 22 last year.

The bundles of £20 notes were still wrapped in the company’s red polythene bags ready to be redistributed to banks throughout south east England.

Jurors heard how suspect Roger Coutts, 30, used space at ENR Cars, on the Graves Industrial Estate, to park vehicles from his business, Northfleet Transit Centre.

In front of the container was a speed boat called the Shakey Jakey. Alongside the boat was a white transit van which Coutts later admitted belonged to him.

Police also discovered a further £50,000 from the raid in a nearby workshop.

When police searched Coutts’ house they found a pair of overalls and a balaclava hidden under the stairs, similar to those worn by the robbers on CCTV footage of the raid.

Coutts, who had left the country three days after the robbery, was arrested on March 4 in Welling, but denied knowledge of the heist. He was rearrested on June 26 after forensic tests were said to have revealed his DNA was present on cable ties used to bind workers at the depot on the night of the raid.

When interviewed, Coutts told police the overalls and balaclava discovered at his home was for paintballing. He said it was impossible his DNA had been found on cable ties because he was not involved in the offence.

The court heard how millions of pounds was also discovered hidden in 18 holdalls at a lock-up near the home of suspect Lea Rusha, 25.

The garage in Castle Street, Southborough, near Tunbridge Wells, was just a short distance from Rusha’s house at Lambersart Close.

Jurors were told that the garage had been rented by Jason Hodge, a first cousin of Rusha.
