TWO men have been arrested and bailed by police in connection with the theft of a cash machine during a ram-raid on a bank.
The automatic transfer machine was stolen at about 4.30am on Saturday, January 28, from the National Westminster Bank in High Street, New Romney.
A 21-year-old man from Ashford and a 34-year-old Tenterden man have been bailed pending further enquiries.
Police believe a JCB used in the raid was parked in a lay-by on the Old Ashford Road between Ivychurch and New Romney, and ask that anyone who saw the vehicle at that location to contact them.
The JCB was left with road cones and signs in order to make it appear legitimate, and it was parked at this location from Friday, January 27.
Police would also like to speak to witnesses who saw a white transit flat bed lorry, a 4x4 vehicle, and a small red car, in the high street area which may have been involved in the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Ashford Police Station on 01233 896282.
Alternatively call Crimestoppers Hotline. On 0800 555111. Calls to Crimestoppers are free, you do not have to give your name and you may be eligible for a reward.
